The Tiny Tigers youth program offered at the Rochester Shotokan Karate Dojo is designed for children between the ages of 4 and 6. This program provides a series of structured classes involving fun, stimulating content to create and retain interest while engaging children in physical activity that develops the student’s gross and fine motor skills using fundamental Shotokan Karate technique.
Karate training for children has long been known as an effective means of promoting physical fitness and activity, yet the real value of our Tiny Tigers program is in our character development curriculum. This character development program introduces children in an age appropriate way to concepts such as respect, responsibility and empathy towards other individuals. We emphasis lessons to reinforce the values of regular exercise, the importance of practice (homework) to remember and reinforce learning, positive interaction and harmonizing with others (anti-bullying), and helping, not hurting others (sharing).
Strengthening confidence along with establishing and reinforcing proper behavior, manners and etiquette are hallmarks of our curriculum. We teach that one must earn authority and accept leadership when developed, and we encourage healthy competition and nurture sportsmanship within this environment.
Classes designed for students enrolled in our Tiny Tiger program include:
- A safe, structured and fun learning environment
- Karate drills, exercises and games that aid the development of age specific motor skills
- Discussion and focus on concepts that stimulate thought and strengthen character and values
